I admit that I expected a standard true crime procedural but Martin Scorsese delivered a devastating autopsy of American capitalism. Killers of the Flower Moon is not a traditional gangster film. This visual storytelling technique transforms the domestic spaces of the Osage into suffocating traps where the assassins sip tea. I found that the blocking consistently places Ernest between his uncle and his wife to visualize his fatal weakness.

A critical review of the sound design reveals a brilliant use of rhythmic percussive elements to build an agonizing tension. Foley work amplifies the deep thuds of the oil derricks to create an incessant mechanical heartbeat that haunts the land. The score by Robbie Robertson employs heavy blues basslines and traditional chanting to generate a profound sense of mourning. I noticed that the editing relies on abrupt cuts during the violent murders to deny the audience any cathartic cinematic release.
